Jessie J has nothing but praise for her partner, retired basketball player Chanan Safir Colman, calling him a “natural” at fatherhood as the couple raises their one-year-old son, Sky.
Despite being four years into their relationship, the singer says they’re in no hurry to walk down the aisle.
In an exclusive interview with People, the Grammy-nominated artist, whose new single Living My Best Life has just been released, shared that Colman has exceeded all her expectations as a father.
In regards to this, Jessie said, “He has exceeded my expectations as a father beyond my imagination. I’m so grateful that he is so present and just so willing to adapt around obviously my career,” while speaking over Zoom from a recording studio.
Moreover, Jessie and Colman welcomed their son, Sky, in May 2023 after two years of dating.
The singer previously spoke openly about the heartbreak of a miscarriage, calling Sky’s birth her “happy ending.”
Despite their strong bond, Jessie says marriage isn’t currently a top priority, she explained, “We talk about it all the time, and we laugh about it all the time, and I’m sure we will, but we’re not in any rush. I’ve always said that I’m not too fussed about getting married… it’s just my own preference.”
Still, she imagines a future where their son is old enough to play a meaningful role in the ceremony as Jessie added, “I would love to get married when Sky’s old enough to know what’s happening so that he can really be a part of it and enjoy that moment of seeing Mummy and Daddy come together in our love.”
While marriage is “definitely on the horizon,” the Price Tag singer says she’s content with where they are. “I know he loves me. He knows I love him. We’re good.”
