Cillian Murphy is set to play the most emotional role in upcoming Netflix movie Steve.
The Oscar winner will play the role of Steve, a reform school teacher fighting to keep his institution from closing, while also struggling with his mental health.
Netflix has released the first look image of Murphy in Steve, which is based on Max Porter's critically acclaimed 2023 novella Shy.
The film is directed by Belgian filmmaker Tim Mielants, famously known for Small Things Like These, and producedby Cillian Murphy, Alan Moloney and Tina Pawlik.
It is worth mentioning that the role is said to be Murphy's most emotionally complex role yet.
As per the streaming giant, "Set in the mid-’90s, Steve is a reimagining of Max Porter's Sunday Times bestseller Shy. The film follows a pivotal day in the life of head teacher Steve (Academy Award winner Cillian Murphy) and his students at a last-chance reform school amid a world that has forsaken them."
"As Steve fights to protect the school’s integrity and impending closure, we witness him grappling with his own mental health," they added further.
The film is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on October 3, 2025.
Notably, Cillian Murphy is also confirmed to appear in Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later, the sequel to the cult classic 28 Days Later.
