Paul Burrell, a former servant of the British Royal Household and latterly butler to Diana, said the mother of Prince William and Prince Harry would "still be here" if King Charles had taken care of her.
The former wife of King Charles came under discussion amid the ongoing dispute between William and Harry.
"I'm a divorced man with two boys, and I take great care of my wife," he said while speaking on journalist Jeremy Vine's show.
"If Charles had done that with Diana, she'd still be here today," he added.
He was confronted by Ann Widdecombe, a columnist and author, who said Burrell was trying to shift the blame and imply that it wasn't Diana's fault.
She said, "Oh no, I think that's too harsh. I mean, why did Diana die? She died because it was a drunken driver. She wasn't wearing the seatbelt. Only survivor of the car crash was wearing a seat belt."
Princess Diana died in a car crash in Paris in August 1997 at the age of 36. Her boyfriend Dodi Fayed and the driver also died, while the only survivor, bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones, was reportedly the only one wearing a seatbelt.
When Paul Burrell suggested she was in Paris due to circumstances not of her own making, the guest responded, "Maybe she shouldn't have been in Paris, but she was there voluntarily. She was having an affair with Dodi Fayed. She contributed to what happened."

Earlier, Burrell had said Princess Diana was the "jewel in our crown" and that "we didn't do enough to take care of her."
He also criticized Meghan Markle’s decision to release a wine on Princess Diana's birthday.
