Kaitlin Armstrong’s whereabouts have once again come under the spotlight amid Netflix’s premiere of The Truth and Tragedy of Moriah Wilson.

The documentary centers around Wilson’s life, and death, her rise to becoming the trailblazer of cycling and the shocking circumstances of her tragic death.

What actually happened to Moriah Wilson?

Wilson, at age 25, was regarded as one of the sport’s brightest talents, switching from professional skiing to a buzzing cyclist with major titles on her shoulder.

But following a brutal tragedy in May 2022 she was shot and killed while staying at a friend’s home in Austin, Texas.

Wilson visited her fellow cyclist Colin Strickland, and they went for swimming.

Later, they had a meal and drinks together before Strickland dropped Wilson at her friend’s place, where she was found fatally shot an hour later.

What triggered investigators' attention to Strickland’s girlfriend, who happened to be a yoga teacher, Armstrong, was because her vehicle was located near Wilson’s home.

Wilson and Strickland dated in 2021 and split.

That friendship between Strickland and Wilson, however infurated Armstrong.

How was Kaitlin Armstrong arrested?

After the brutal murder of Moriah Wilson, Armstrong fled the U.S. on May 18, 2022, which triggered a 43-day manhunt.

On June 29, she was apprehended by authorities in Costa Rica.

She was eventually found in Costa Rica, where authorities said she had altered her appearance through plastic surgery and used false identification to evade capture.

Upon her extradition to the U.S., Armstrong was charged with murder and pleaded not guilty.

The trial began on November 1, 2023 and after a two-and-a-half-week trial, she was found guilty of first-degree murder.

Armstrong was handed a life imprisonment of 90 years.

Where is Kaitlin Armstrong now?

As of this writing in 2026, Kaitlin Armstrong is serving her sentence at the Dr. Lane Murray Unit, a prison located in Gatesville, Texas.

She would only be entitled to parole after she completes around three decades of her sentence of 90-years of imprisonment. 

It means she wouldn’t be considered for release until around 2050.
