LAHORE: A private steel mill owner got one year jail term over power theft in what was described as an unprecedented punishment in the history of Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), Geo News reported Wednesday.
WAPDA’s senior Magistrate Noor Muhammad Awan said Rizwan, owner of Haq Steel Mills, was charged with power theft of Rs2.2 million and was sent to jail after being found guilty.
Awan told that Mr Rizwan become the first man to be jailed over electricity theft in department’s history.
He said hundreds of cases related to power theft were pending and would soon be decided.
