ISLAMABAD: A spokesman for Pakistan's prime minister says he will attend the inauguration ceremony of India's Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi.
The decision by Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif could signal an easing of tensions between the nations.
A statement Saturday from Sharif's office said the prime minister had been invited this week by New Delhi to attend the ceremony. Sharif already congratulated Modi over his victory in the election.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh had told that Narendra Modi will be sworn in as Indian prime minister and form a government on May 26 at 6:00 PM.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will attend the oath taking ceremony along with selective officials that may include PM’s Adviser on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.
A one-on-one meeting is likely to be held between PM Nawaz and his Indian counterpart to discuss Indo-Pak relationship and resumption of bilateral dialogue.
The spokesperson of PM House told that the prime minister will stay over night in India and will also have a meeting with India President Pranab Mukherjee.
