Pathankot probe: Indian investigators seek visit to Pakistan

KARACHI: India's National Investigation Agency (NIA) has requested for a team of its officials to visit Pakistan to carry out its own probe of the Pathankot airbase attack, Indian media reported on Friday.

According to reports, the NIA made the request to a Pakistani Joint Investigation Team (JIT) which is currently in India to probe the attack which left seven Indian soldiers dead at the airbase close to the Pakistani border.

“The Pakistan JIT welcomed the idea that a team of NIA would like to visit Pakistan and carry forward the probe (into the attack),” Indian media quoted NIA chief Sharad Kumar as saying.

Kumar, however, said no date has been fixed for the visit of the Indian investigation team to Pakistan.

According to Indian media, the Pakistani JIT has been handed over some documents pertaining to the probe, including the DNA reports of the alleged terrorists killed in the days-long gun-battle at the airbase.
