Kamal’s tirade a conspiracy to implement minus-Altaf formula: MQM

KARACHI: Following the re-emergence of former Mayor of Karachi Mustafa Kamal and his tell-all press conference in which he decimated the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Altaf Hussain, the party is holding a joint press conference in which leaders from Karachi and London are responding to allegations hurled at the party and its leadership.

MQM Convener Nadeem Nusrat while addressing the press conference, rejected Mustafa Kamal's allegations and said Altaf Hussain cares for his supporters. He added that instead of talking to others, the establishment should speak to Altaf Hussain.

Nusrat said, it is surprising that while MQM leaders are running around securing bails to avoid being put behind bars, those who fall out with the MQM are washed in a special laundry and put before the media to hurl allegations against the party and its leader.

Nusrat dismissed all the allegations and appealed to the people to not believe any of the allegations hurled at Altaf Hussain. He stressed that Hussain is not alone and the entire Rabita Committee is standing by his side.

Nusrat said that Altaf Hussain has worked tirelessly for the party and the nation. This is not the first time that the party has been targeted as it has been victimized in the past also.

People who do not have public mandate are projected the way Mustafa Kamal and Anis Qaimkhani are being projected today, he said.

Innocent masses of Pakistan have been humiliated through allegations today, he said. However, MQM is not concerned about the allegations being hurled at MQM and its top leadership, he added.

"Was making telephone operators Nazim and MPA a mistake?" Nusrat questioned, referring to Mustafa Kamal and Qaimkhani.

"Today we are stronger than before," he added before handing over the command of the press conference to the Karachi Rabita Committee members.

Nusrat also appealed to the party workers to remain peaceful and not to take law in their own hands, saying others have the right to speak.

Speaking on the occasion, senior MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar said that similar allegations had also been hurled against the party during election campaigns in the past.

“We categorically dismiss allegations hurled at the two people’s press conference today,” he said.

“This conspiracy has no other purpose but an attempt to practically implement the minus-Altaf formula,” he added.
