Arrested aides of Zardari should be presented in court: Khursheed Shah

ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah on Saturday demanded that the three close aides of former president Asif Ali Zardari, who were reportedly picked up earlier, be presented in the courts within the next 24 hours.

"If you want to arrest people for being Zardari’s friends, then you should arrest me too, I can also tell you a lot," he said while talking to media at his residence in the Ministers’ Enclave.

He said the ‘arrested’ people included Zardari’s manager Ghulam Qadir Marri and Nawab Leghari.

Talking about the National Action Plan, Shah said that although Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad was launched and Rangers were given special powers, the National Action Plan was still not fully implemented.

“No matter how much the government speaks, no difference comes from just speaking,” he remarked.

The opposition leader lamented that the government had made no effort to unite the Muslim community.

“Saudi Arabia should come forward to end the differences between Muslims across the globe,” he said.

In the past 65 years, the largest amount of loans was taken last year, he alleged, adding that as a result of the loans Rs25 billion would just be the interest rate.

“The rulers have played with the emotions of the people,” Shah said, adding that the government had accepted there was a shortfall of 4,500 MW despite claiming that it would provide electricity to everyone.

“Progress does not come by just making motorways or Orange trains, it requires improving financial condition of the people,” he said.

About the pending Panama verdict, the PPP leader said he hoped that God would give the concerned institutions the strength to make the right decision.
