Bollywood has always had a long way to go before equal pay become a reality and Taapsee Pannu wishes for it to come true at least within her lifetime.
In an interview with #NoFilterNeha, the Pink actor said: “We have a long way to go. It is insane," she recently revealed that she doesn't even get paid half of what her male co-workers make.
At the 50th edition of the International Film Festival, in India, the actor stated that Bollywood's female stars don’t make “even half of (what) the leading men (get paid)."
She also went on to say: "It is way less than one-fourth at times — to be honest, even less. Half of the salary of the leading hero is the entire budget of a female-driven film of an A-list actress."
Taapsee stated that only way of earning an equal amount of pay, is to release more female-lead films in the box office. "I hope it changes in my lifetime. That can happen when more and more people walk into a female-driven film in theatres. Only box-office can change this.”
“Yes, women-driven films have increased dramatically over the last four to five years but the big difference will happen when the (box-office) numbers come in. There is no other way," she concluded.
