Govinda, Jackie Shroff face heavy fine for endorsing oil 'that doesn't work'

Bollywood megastars Govinda and Jackie Shroff have landed in hot waters after they were found promoting a pain relief oil.

The two actors were fined for INR 20,000 after they endorsed the company and stepped into the role of its brand ambassadors.

The court verdict against the actors was only recently delivered while the complaint was filed by a young individual five years ago against the herbal oil company.

The petitioner had argued that the oil endorsed by the actors did not provide the results within 15 days, contrary to the claims made in its advertisements.

The applicant, a lawyer named Abhinav Agarwal from Muzaffarnagar had ordered a pain relief oil for his father for Rs3,600 but after its disappointing results, he had contacted a representative of the company for a refund.

Upon the oil firm’s failure to give him a refund and continuous misbehavior with him, he once again reached out to them and went on to file a complaint with the consumer court.

“I bought the product because celebrities like Govinda and Jackie Shroff were promoting it. The company promised complete relief in 15 days. Everything turned out to be a fraud,” he said.

Govinda, Jackie Shroff, and the other two stakeholders were all ordered to pay Rs20,000 as compensation while it also issued orders of Rs3,600 return to Agarwal in a nine percent interest per annum as well as other legal expenditure.
