Olivia Williams speaks up about guest starring in ‘Friends’: ‘It was Harrowing’

Olivia Williams recently opened up about her ‘harrowing’ experience guest starring in the globally hit sitcom Friends.

The acclaimed actress appeared in the two-part season-four finale of the acclaimed TV show as one of the bridesmaids, Felicity. The popular episode featured Ross’s wedding with Emily which infamously ended with him accidentally saying Rachel’s name during the vows.

Now, almost 26 years after the episode aired, Williams has opened up to The Independent and shared her remarks as a guest star.

“Gosh, well, just as an example, I was taken to the studio in a shared car with a wonderful actress whose character, I think, was called ‘Old Woman’”, she recalled describing the nameless actress as ‘distinguished’ and ‘very good’.

However, things went awry for the ‘Old Woman’ as she was yelled at by the producer.

“At one point, a producer just yelled at her: ‘You’re not funny!’ And she didn’t come back the next day. So that was alarming”, explained The Sixth Sense actress.

The 55-year-old British actress also weighed in on the show’s image standards, suggesting that there was a certain look to follow to appear on the show, she said, “Friends was a brand, and you had to fit the brand”.

Adding that the specific conformity involved “plucking off all of your eyebrows” and remembered begging for mercy and not plucking hers.

“That’s the sense in which it was harrowing”, the mother of two added.
