'The Maze Runner' reboot is in works 6 years after trilogy ended

The Maze Runner is slated for a revival this year by 20th Century Studios.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Disney corner of 20th Century Studio is reviving the action adventure franchise with a fresh storyline.

The trilogy which ran from 2014 to 2018 will return with a fresh perspective, courtesy of screenwriter Jack Paglen, who is known for his remarkable work in Johnny Depp-led movie Transcendence

As for the development, Wyck Godfrey, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Lee Stollman and Marty Bowen will return as producers while Wes Ball, who served as the director for the original film, will also be involved in the reboot as a producer.

The movies adapted from James Dashner’s Sci-Fi novel explores the setting of a “dystopian world with evil government organizations and foul corporations”, as per THR

The literature and the books followed the story of a group of teens who arrived in a walled community, with their memories erased, named Glade. Outside of these walls is a maze full of mechanical creatures and a door that closes at night at sundown.

Now while the boys tried to escape the maze for years, a 16-year-old Thomas joins the group and earns the name of runner, as he attempts to survive and lead the boys out.

As per the outlet, the new installment will not serve as a sequel to the original trilogy, nor will it redo the previous storyline. Instead, it will be “a sort of continuation of the story yet also return to the elements that made the first movie connect with its audience”.

The original movie starred Ki Hong Lee, Dexter Darden, Kaya Scodelario, Will Poulter, Dylan Poulter, and Thomas Sangster.
