Keanu Reeves is set to play Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Now, its director, Jeff Fowler, has praised the actor for his performance as a voiceover artist.
During an interview with SFX magazine, the filmmaker said, “I'd be lying if I didn’t say there was just an obvious corollary between his performance in the John Wick films and the vibe we’re trying to channel for Shadow.”
He continued, “Because Shadow, from a tonal standpoint, is an anti-hero, he's got a little edginess to him.”
"It felt like the perfect fit for Keanu. He gave such a great performance. He knew what we were after and was excited about playing the character and coming into our world,” Jeff added.
Keanu, on the other hand, reflected on his upcoming action-adventure comedy, saying he went through an “intense process” of getting into the character.
“For 50 years, Shadow has been in a state of suspended animation. He's coming out of it seeking revenge," the John Wick star said in a promotional video for Sonic 3.
"It was really the internal journey to get to the anger and the emotion. It was intense,” adding, "Sonic 3 and playing Shadow, it's really on another level," the star added.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be out in cinemas on Nov 20.
