King Charles scraped a centuries-old Royal tradition for his son, Prince William, amid rumours he will abdicate the throne sooner than expected.
According to recent report, the monarch decided against holding an investiture ceremony for William when he became the Prince of Wales, breaking with centuries of tradition.
Speaking with The Sun Royal Exclusive show, Welsh journalist Huw Thomas revealed that Charles did not want the ceremony for William after his own negative experience at his 1969 investiture ceremony at Caernarfon Castle, which was marred by protests and a foiled bomb attack.
“It was known that [Charles] didn’t enjoy that experience, it was known that he felt he was being used in this big political, theatrical moment,” he told the publication.
Charles had “[made] it known over the years” that he didn’t “want that to happen again,” the expert revealed.
He continued: “So even though [Charles] created Prince William as Prince of Wales within 24 hours of becoming King, it was within a couple of months known, ‘actually, don’t expect any kind of ceremony – not even a small thing in an office in Cardiff.’”
“There doesn’t need to be one.”
