The famed Blues Clues star Steve Burns has just shed some light into his own mental state during the days of death rumors and backlash.
For those unversed, Burns is a beloved actor that rose to fame, among 90’s kids, following his portrayal in the animated TV show, Blues Clues that ran from 1996 to 2002 on Nick. Jr.
Upon his exit, he left the show with his ‘brother’ Joe, who was played by Donovan Patton.
It is also pertinent to mention that after his stint he worked as a musician, releasing music with the members of The Flaming Lips.
Now he has gotten honest about what a toll that took on him, because shortly after his exit rumors of his death began to swirl.
He discussed their impact during an appearance on the Rainn Wilson podcast, Soul Bloom.
According to the star, “When a rumor like that persists for three or four years, it stops being funny.”
“When it persists for 10 years it feels like a cultural preference. … When it persists for 15 or 20 years, you start to feel like you’re supposed to be.”
He also added, “What a lot of people don’t understand is that during the show, the internet was beginning to internet, and the world decided, or a large portion of the world decided, that I had died.”
That left him in the “throes of this depression after I left the show. He even admitted the dangers that followed, especially when that kind of rumor is “not what you want to hear when you’re severely clinically depressed.”
“I didn’t recognize me. Everyone thought I was dead, and eventually I started playing along,” he admitted too before concluding.
