The Weeknd might just have to wait a little longer for the success of his film, Hurry Up Tomorrow.

His film, also starring Barry Keoghan and Jenna Ortega has flopped the box office after its debut, not even making it to the top five.

The film, which is accompanied alongside the R&B singer’s album of the same name, shows him playing the character of Abel, who is struggling from insomnia and suffers a mental breakdown, inspired from real-life events.

Hurry Up Tomorrow debuted in cinemas last week and even though it was well-received by critics, it didn’t generate enough at the box office, garnering a total of 3.3 million dollars from over 2000 cinemas in the US and the budget of the film being 15 million dollars.

It managed to land in sixth place, quite behind the number one film currently and fellow release, Final Destination: Bloodlines.

The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, co-wrote the film with director Trey Edward Shults and Reza Fahim, describing the movie as “an extension” of his album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, which was released in January.
