Miley Cyrus revealed that she once faced an ovarian cyst rupture in the middle of a concert, which left her traumatized for months.
In a recent chat on the May 21 episode of The Zane Lowe Interview Series on Apple Music 1, the pop singer recalled the scary health battle, an ovarian cyst rupture, which occurred during hosting her Miley's New Year's Eve Party special on NBC in 2023 alongside co-host Dolly Parton.
“I had a pretty traumatic experience on a show that I was doing with Lorne when I was doing my New Year’s show,” Miley recalled.
“I had a medical emergency. I had an ovarian cyst rupture."
As the Flower singer shared that she was mid-show and "didn’t know exactly what was going on" after she felt pain in her abdomen she continued the live show with excruciating pain and even performed duets with Dolly, Sia and Paris Hilton.
“It was pretty traumatic because it was extremely excruciating and I did the show anyway,” Miley revealed. “But it was really, really hard on me.”
The health scare affected her to the extent that the thought of quitting music crossed her mind.
However, a thoughtful conversation with Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels held her back from the major decision.
"I had dinner with Lorne and he said something that now has stuck with me," Miley noted. "He goes, 'Six months—everybody has six months to feel sorry for themselves and then we start to rebuild.'"
"He's like, 'You have no idea how many artists have sat in this chair and told me they were quitting music,'" she added. "'Everyone does this.'"
