Jurassic World: Rebirth director Gareth Edwards has made a shocking confession about dinosaur movies.
While promoting his recently released directorial movie in an interview with GamesRadar+, he candidly discussed the audience’s interest in dinosaurs.
“There's been many dinosaur films in terms of Jurassic, and the audience, you've got to do something new and fresh to give them a reason to come see the movie,” Edwards began.
“And so by acknowledging that at the beginning and saying, ‘Look, audiences aren't that interested in dinosaurs anymore’, I thought it was like, ‘Okay, well, this is an honest beginning. Let's see where we go from here,’” he concluded.
However, the seventh installment of Jurassic Park franchise has reportedly grossed to $30.5 million domestically during its opening day, and its predicted it’ll hit $133.5 million over its first five days.
Scarlett Johansson, and Jonathan Bailey star in the movie alongside Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend, Luna Blaise and Audrina Miranda.
The story revolves around Johansson’s on-screen character Zora Bennett, who encounters a shipwrecked family and discovers the hidden secret of an island with the help of its team-members.
Previously, the director compared the 1993 original Jurassic with his directorial installment of the franchise in an interview with Variety.
“Jurassic Park [the original 1993 movie] is a horror film in the witness protection program. Most people don’t think of it like that,” he said.
“We all went to see it as kids. But I was scared s*******, to be honest, when I was at the cinema watching the T. rex attack.”
“It’s one of the most well-directed scenes in cinema history, so the bar’s really high to come on board and try and do this," Gareth Edwards told the outlet before signing off.
