Michelle Obama has entered the chat as Trump doubles down on his comments about Rob Reiner’s shocking murder.
The former First Lady of the United States slammed current President Trump’s criticism of Reiner following the death of the renowned Hollywood filmmaker and his wife, Michele Singer. Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday, December 15, Michelle revealed she and Barack Obama were supposed to meet Reiner and Singer the previous night, i.e., the night they were found hacked to death in their LA home.
“We’ve known them for many, many years, and we were supposed to be seeing them that night last night – and we got the news,” she said, before directly addressing Trump’s viral tweet.
“And let me just say this: Unlike some people, Rob and Michele Reiner are some of the most decent, courageous people. They are not deranged or crazed,” the 61-year-old said. “What they have always been, are passionate people. In a time when there’s not a lot of courage going on, they were the kind of people who were ready to put their actions behind what they cared about. And they cared about their family, and they cared about this country, and they cared about fairness and equity, and that is the truth. I do know them,” she expressed.
Beloved across Hollywood as one of the greatest directors, Reiner and his wife were found dead in their mansion after police responded to a call around 3:30 pm on Sunday, December 14. Their daughter Romy is said to have discovered their bodies. Hours later, the couple’s son, 32-year-old Nick Reiner, was arrested and detained over suspicion of murdering his parents.
As Hollywood mourned the filmmaking legend and poured out tributes to Rob Riner and his wife, US President Donald Trump also chimed in.
Taking to hos social media platform Truth Social on Monday morning, Trump wrote, “Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed way, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.”
Despite massive backlash to his comments, Trump doubled down at a press conference hours later.
“I wasn’t a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person as far as Trump is concerned,” he said, adding that Reiner “hurt himself career-wise” over his criticism of the president and his policies.
Trump added, “He became like a deranged person – Trump Derangement Syndrome. So, I was not a fan of Rob Reiner at all, in any way, shape or form. I thought he was very bad for our country.”
