28 Years Later: The Bone Temple director Nia DaCosta has revealed what drew her to the script of the upcoming sequel.
Taking over the directing duties of the latest installment from Danny Boyle the American filmmaker shared how she came on board after her agent informed her that the trilogy was moving forward and the directing position was open.
“I heard the whispers of it,” she recalled in a latest episode of Deadline’s Crew Call before adding that her agent sent her the script and she “just fall in love.”
“The scripts are amazing and i loved how the two scripts were different because it made me feel like i could really put my stamp on the second film and so i told them i was interested,” the 36-year-old explained.
She emphasised that the stark contrast between the scripts ultimately enticed her to pursue the project.
Nia then had conversations with the producers and other makers of the sequel, clearly putting her idea on the table.
“And being just very clear about my vision and saying this is how I want to do it like this is what I want to do. I don't want to make a Danny Boyle movie,” she added.
The Nora Ephron Prize winner also shed light on how she aimed to make The Bone Temple distinguish from the original 2025 film, which was helmed by Boyle.
“if you are into this vision that i have then i would love to do this if you choose me but if not then i can’t wait to see it,” she added.
Additionally, the sequel, titled 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, is releasing in theaters on January 16in the United States, with some UK showings starting slightly earlier on January 14, continuing the horror franchise.
