Good Friday is celebrated worldwide on April 3, 2026. Although it is one of the most sacred days on the Christian calendar, it is not a federal holiday.
This means that most government offices, banks, and mail services will operate normally. However, the stock market remains closed.
Here’s a complete list of what’s open and what’s closed on Good Friday.
The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and Nasdaq are both closed on Friday, April 3. After the long weekend, the trading will resume on Monday, April 6. The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association announced that the bond market will also be closed for the day.
Since it is not a federal holiday, the Federal Reserve remains open. Most banks will operate during regular business hours, with wire transfers and ATM services operating normally. However, customers are advised to check with local branches as some states, such as CT, NJ, and others, observe the Good Friday holiday.
The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) will also deliver mail normally. There are regular operating schedules for UPS and FedEx. All post offices remain open. For shoppers, major retail stores and restaurants are expected to stay open with standard hours. The private sector has not announced any widespread closures.
State government offices and some public schools may be closed in some states, including Delaware, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Texas.
The next major market closure is Memorial Day, which is observed on May 25.
