The Canadian government has updated its travel advisory for Morocco.
Officials warn citizens to “exercise a high degree of caution” due to escalating concerns over petty crime and armed robberies.
Moreover, there’s an ongoing threat of terrorism against Westerners.
A new Canadian government travel advisory is advising travellers from Canada to "exercise a high degree of caution" when travelling to Morocco due to increased instances of petty theft, violent armed robbery, and the risk of terrorist attacks on Western tourists.
According to the April 22, 2026, travel advisory, several factors should be considered by Canadians before traveling to Morocco, a top tourist destination in North Africa, known for its medinas in Marrakech, Sahara desert tours, and cities like Essaouira.
Another caution issued by Canada is that tourists should keep clear of any area around the closed border between Morocco and Algeria "due to increased military presence, instability in the region, and difficulty determining the exact position of the border."
Furthermore, Western Sahara, particularly within the 20 kilometers surrounding the Berm, should be avoided due to the presence of landmines.
