Lola Young has come a long way since she collapsed on stage at the height of her addiction last year, but she still has a long way to go.

The Grammy-winning singer provided a health update in a new TikTok posted on Wednesday, September 30, revealing that years of vaping have made breathing very difficult.

“Somebody once said to me, ‘Lola there will be a day when you wake up, you’ll be 25 or 26, from a deep sleep and you’ll start to feel the effects of vaping,’” she recalled. “And do you know what I said? I said ‘nah’ and rolled my eyes.”

The 25-year-old then admitted that “the day has come.”

“That day has come, where my lungs feel like they’re battery powered, like they’re just one big battery, and breathing feels like a chore,” she said.

The Messy hitmaker described breathing as “hard work” and joked that she deserved a “£30-an-hour” wage for doing it. However, she admitted she isn't ready to quit vaping just yet, saying, “But let me tell you something, I’ll try to quit when I’m 45.”

Young has previously spoken about her struggles with addiction and mental health. On September 27, 2025, she collapsed on stage during the All Things Go Music Festival in New York, forcing her to cut her performance short.

Just days before the incident, she had opened up to The Guardian about her cocaine addiction, which she dealt with for “a long time” and checked herself into rehab for in 2024.

But the true turning point in her recovery came after her on-stage collapse, which she described as a wake-up call while speaking to the Rolling Stone in March. “I’m very grateful that it happened because it was… a breaking point which allowed me to then be able to be here today.”

She further revealed to The Times that she was “in recovery” during the months she stepped away from the spotlight in early 2026.
