PERTH: England put itself in a strong position to finally beat Australia on the current tour by scoring 316-8 after being sent in to bat in the fourth one-dayer on Friday, with Jos Buttler putting on a late 71 and Ben Stokes scoring 70.
James Faulkner led Australia´s bowlers with four wickets and was on a hat trick on the final ball of the innings, only for Stuart Broad to deny him by hitting a four.
Australia, which clinched the series by winning the first three matches, rested four regulars: Michael Clarke, Shane Watson, Brad Haddin and David Warner.
Australia beat England in the Ashes test series 5-0 and is targeting a tenth-straight win over its rival in all forms of the game. (AP)
