Finance Minister briefs IMF team on economic performance

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister of Finance, Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh briefed the International Monetary Fund (IMF) team on the broad contours of government economic policies and their outcomes.

A delegation of International Monetary Fund (IMF) led by Jeff Franks and Government's economic team led by Dr Hafeez Shaikh held an introductory meeting here on Monday as a part of Post Programme Monitoring.

This policy level meeting followed the recently concluded technical level talks held with the IMF delegation, said a statement issued by the Finance Ministry here on Monday.

The participants exchanged views on the broad macroeconomic outlook for Pakistan in the current financial year and the medium term.

The Finance Minister expressed the hope that subsequent sectoral discussion would be productive in providing the IMF team with a good overview of the government efforts and achievements as well as the reforms envisaged going forward.

He saw this as a good opportunity for the new IMF team for building a mutually beneficial relationship. (APP)
