KARACHI: Parveen Aziz Junejo, the elected representative from PS-76 Dadu-III has denied having resigned from her seat, in a letter to the election tribunal.
In the letter seen by Geo News, Junejo writes, that she did not resign from her seat and was forced to sign a blank paper at Zardari House in Karachi. She has also sought security protocl citing threats to her life.
Junejo maintains, she is still the elected MPA deeming holding by-elections illegal. She adds that while she is currently out of the country undergoing medical treatment for a back ailment, she will return to Pakistan soon.
By-elections were called after Junejo’s resignation was approved by the Speaker Sindh Assemblty, Agha Siraj Durrani in September this year. However the call for election has been challenged by former Sindh Chief Minister Liaquat Jatoi in the Sindh High Court, pleading that before by-elections the matter of election-rigging be addressed.
Jatoi’s counsel Khwaja Naveed submitted Junejo’s letter in the Sindh High Court on Wednesday where Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi will hear the case tomorrow (Thursday).
In her letter Junejo has requested Rangers security protocol citing threats to her life. The letter further states that by-elections not be held until her return and that according to the constitution, before accepting an elected member’s resignation, the member should be called in to verify the same.
Video: Parveen Junejo had spoken to Geo News following her forced resignation and had appealed to PPP Patron-in-Chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for help.
