Over 60 percent of under 13’s ignoring social media age limits in UK

LONDON: A survey conducted by a British news outlet reveals more than 60% of British children aged between 10 and 12 are using social media accounts ignoring the age limits, putting them at risk of online bullying and abuse.

The survey has found that Facebook was the most used social media portal followed by Instagram.

The survey included approximately 1000 children and teenagers between the ages of 10 and 18. More than one in five said they had been bullied online but still found social media to be an important part of their lives.

According to a report, social media platforms were the most common spaces where youngsters witnessed hate online.  Youngsters with disabilities and those from black, Asian, Middle Eastern or other minority ethnic communities were most likely to witness hate online.
