Zayn Malik opens up about his depression

Zayn Malik has always been in the news whether it’s about his relationship with supermodel Gigi Hadid or his songs.

This time Zayn opened up about his battle with depression and eating disorder while telling how he overcame the situation.

Troubled singer said that spending time at home with parents with a break from the spotlight at home helped him conquering his anxiety demons.

Zayn Malik also told how mental issues prevented him performing live since launching his solo career a year ago.

The One Direction singer developed an eating disorder at the height of the band’s fame. He confessed he used to go ‘two or three days straight’ without eating.

On his eating battle, Zayn said: “It was a control thing.”

Pillow talk singer further said, “Every area of my life was so regimented and controlled it was the one area where I could say, ‘No, I’m not eating that.’ Once I got over the control, the eating just came back into place, supernaturally.”

Malik told how his mother contributed in helping him out of that phase. He said, “I came back to the UK and spent some time with my mom and got some TLC, and she cooked me food and I got back in touch, mentally, with a lot of the things I’d lost.”

Zayn’s girlfriend Gigi Hadid also lent her support to the boyfriend. She also wrote on her Twitter,“I’ve seen the battles you go through and the way you fight to get to a place that allows you to get up there for your fans. Your bravery in those times makes me proud, but your honesty last night proved what you’re all about, being real.”

Zayn says men shouldn't be afraid to express their emotions. He said, ““We’re all human. People are often afraid to admit difficulties, but I don’t believe that there should be a struggle with anything that’s the truth. If you were a guy, you used to have to be really masculine, but now expressing emotion is accepted and respected.”
