Nicole Kidman, an acclaimed actress with a career of four decades, is set to receive the American Film Institute's Lifetime Achievement Award.

This marks the first time in 49-years an Australian has been honored with this award.

Since her debut in the 1983 film BMX Bandits, Kidman has captivates audiences with her remarkable performances in a diverse array of films.

The Far and Away actress have worked with some of the most iconic filmmakers, such as Stanley Kubrick, Baz Luhrmann, and Sofia Coppola.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kidman expressed her overwhelming gratitude and surprise at being recognized in such a significant manner, stating, "to be honored by the American Film Institute is such a massive honor for me because I was born in America; I had Australian parents, which is why I hold dual citizenship. I always felt that I was going to come to America and make films in Hollywood."

"But what I actually wanted was to make films everywhere. I wanted to see the world," she added.

During an interview, when asked if there was any project that surprised her by how audiences connected with it, she reflected on the different responses from her viewers.

"There are always surprises," she noted.

"Obviously there have been massive hits, and you go, “Well, that worked!” But it’s the ones that find their way to people. I am amazed people even know who I am. My kids say to me, “Gosh, you can’t go anywhere that you’re not known.” That’s always what surprises me," Kidman added.
