Nicole Kidman reveals her ‘awful reaction’ to her father’s death

Nicole Kidman opened up about the heart breaking moment when she saw her father's dead body and shared how that informed her performance for one of the challenging scenes in her show.

During the panel discussion at the FYC event of the show Expats in Los Angeles, Kidman revealed that she laughed upon seeing her father’s dead body and she used the same reaction for her character to identify a child's body in the show.

"When we go to the morgue when we’re told our son is there ... I just said, 'I'm gonna try something because this is actually from my own life' — not where I went to a morgue, but when my father passed away, and I laughed," Kidman, 56, explained during the panel discussion of the show.

It is pertinent to mention that Kidman is playing the role of the mother of a missing child in Expats.

Kidman went on to say, "Because it was so devastating when I saw his body ... and I had the most awful reaction, which was I started to shake and laugh. And I'm like, 'That's what Margaret (her character in Expats) would be feeling.' "

Moreover, Kidman also recalled how her mother responded at the time, "My mom looked at me and she actually had to slap my face and say, 'Nicole, snap out of it,” she continued. "Because I was so short-circuited in my brain, she said, many times ... 'Snap out of it.'"

“I was so ashamed to talk about it, but at the same time I go, 'But it's real.' And it's based in the deepest love and not being able to handle a situation," she added.

For those unversed, Kidman's father reportedly passed away at the age of 75 on September 12, 2014 after a fall followed by a suspected heart attack at a hotel in Singapore.
