'The Lion King' traces 'the origins' of King Mufasa in new trailer

The Lion King’s Mufasa just got his own story-line as the franchise’s role of Queen Nala is reprised by Beyoncé.

Alongside Queen Bey, her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter would be joining her mother to voice the character of Kiara, King Simba and Queen Nala’s daughter, who last appeared in the animated The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride.

Mufasa: The Lion King, which is the new and upcoming prequel to the 2019 blockbuster live-action The Lion King, released its first trailer on April 29, 2024, Monday.

In its opening seconds, Mufasa, voiced by Aaron Pierre, Scar, portrayed by Kelvin Harrison Jr. and their home in the African Pride Lands could be seen.

The 42-year-old Single Ladies hit-maker reprised her role as Nala with Simba’s voice actor, Donald Glover doing the same.

“Simba, having become king of the Pride Lands, is determined for his cub to follow in his paw prints while the origins of his late father Mufasa are explored,” the official synopsis of the forthcoming installment reads.

Mufasa: The Lion King is being directed by the Oscar-winning Barry Jenkins and written by Jeff Nathanson, the pen behind Catch Me If You Can.
