Angelina Jolie marks major milestone with 'Maria' Golden Globe nod

Angelina Jolie just marked a career milestone with her role in the popular biopic, Maria.

For her portrayal of the legendary opera singer, Maria Callas in the titular movie, the iconic actress just landed the ninth Golden Globe nomination of her career.

On Monday, it was revealed that the Maleficent star scored the nod in the category of Best Performance By A Female Actor in a Motion Picture Drama.

In this category, Jolie would be up against contenders Pamela Anderson for The Last Showgirl, Nicole Kidman for Babygirl, Tilda Swinton for The Girl Next Door, Fernanda Torres for I'm Still Here and Kate Winslet for Lee.

Previously, Jolie was nominated for the Golden Globe Awards for her roles in George Wallace, Gia, Girl Interrupted, A Mighty Heart, Changeling, The Tourist, In The Land Of Blood And Honey and First They Killed My Father, where she bagged the award for the first three projects.

In the lead for this year’s ceremony is the film Emilia Pérez, earning ten different nominations, in the categories of best motion picture musical or comedy, best screenplay, best original score, best director for Jacques Audiard, best supporting actress for Zoe Saldana and best actress for Selena Gomez.

The Golden Globe Awards are scheduled to be held on January 5, 2025, in Los Angeles.
