Robert Downey Jr. has opened up about his experience in the Hollywood industry.

Robert Downey Jr. recently got casted in SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night, a four-part documentary series which featured infamous sketches, as well as their writing and audition process, alongside Anthony Michael Hall.

“I learned so much in that year about what I wasn’t,” the Iron-man alum began by saying.

Recalling his time working on Saturday Night Live in season 11, he continued, “But there’s not a more exciting 90 minutes you could have, whether you are any good or not.”

Referring to the youngest cast member, Hall, from SNL, which aired 1985 to 1986, he said, “Michael Hall said to me, 'I’m gonna go do SNL. I’m gonna get you an audition and I bet you’re gonna get yourself on the show too.'"

Hall remembered his time on the show too and shared, “When I look back, I have some memories of it being difficult, I think — for a lot of the writers to figure out how to write for this kid — I think it was a big challenge.”

“I wanted to go younger, I perhaps went too young, but I wanted to go younger. The Baby Boomer generation had dominated the show for 10 years, so I decided to clean house,” the Breakfast Club added before signing off.

SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night has just been released on Peacock on January 16, 2025.
