Robert Pattinson says most people who are judgemental towards Twilight haven't seen it.
In an interview with GQ Spain, translated by Variety, the renowned English actor responded to years of criticism from horror fans regarding the movie.
He said, "I love that people keep telling me, 'Man, Twilight ruined the vampire genre.' Are you still stuck on that s*****? How can you be sad about something that happened almost 20 years ago? It's crazy."
Pattinson quipped, "The people who don't like it are generally people who haven't seen it, and they're like all judgemental and stuff, and cynical people. But I think I am a judgemental and cynical person who would just mindlessly hate it without ever having seen anything."
In a Variety Actors on Actors interview in 2019, the Batman star stated that he did not fully understand the popularity of both the Twilight film and book series.
"I mean, it's a weird story, Twilight. It's strange how people responded," he noted.
The Mickey 17 actor added, "They are very romantic, but at the same time, it's not like The Notebook romantic. The Notebook is very, very sweet and heartbreaking and stuff. Twilight is about this guy who finds the one girl he wants to be with, and also wants to eat her. Well not eat her, drink her blood, whatever."
"I thought there were definitely bits that were very romantic. But to me, I thought it was a pretty weird story. and even when I was promoting it, I was pretty open about how strange I thought it was when I was doing it," he added.
Moving forward, the Lighthouse star also discussed his approach to making the first movie, saying that he wanted to make it as "arty as possible," even though the studio disagreed.
It is pertinent to mention that in Twilight, which came out in 2008, Robert Pattinson played Edward Cullen, a vampire, alongside Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan.
