Actor Charley Scalies passed away on Thursday amid his battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

His daughter Anne Marie Scalies confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter, disclosing that the actor died at a nursing facility in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. He was 84 years old.

Scalies was best known for his roles in HBO shows Sopranos and The Wire, where he played a stevedore and union checker, Thomas “Horseface” Pakusa.

“The only time I’ve even been on the docks is when I worked on The Wire,” he once said in a 2019 interview with Chesapeake Bay Magazine. “And the only time I met a stevedore was shortly after I was cast as Horseface.”

"As with all the other characters I’ve been blessed to portray, Horseface lives inside of me," he told the magazine. "I invite him out to play as needed."

Pennsylvania native Charley came to acting later in life after an earlier career in sales and business.
