Nicola Coughlan opens up about the plot of 'Bridgerton' season 4

Nicola Coughlan has talked about her storyline as a mother in Bridgerton season 4, signalling more romance.

In a talk at the BAFTA Television Awards on Sunday, May 11, the 38-year-old actress, who depicts the role of Penelope Bridgerton (formerly Featherington) in the Netflix series, shed light on the fourth season.

A video shared on X (erstwhile Twitter), Coughlan quipped, “What’s coming? Lots more romance."

She went on to add, "We’re shooting it still, takes a long time to shoot Bridgerton, takes about eight months, this one’s taken nine. So, it’s a full pregnancy this season of Bridgerton."

The Barbie star also revealed that the season has included new leads this year, saying, “We got new leads this year, Luke Thompson, who we’re used to, Yerin Ha, who’s new and gorgeous, sort of a Cinderella story.”

“In terms of me, I’ve got a ginger baby. She’s a married woman, she’s a writer, but it’s delightful and gorgeous as always," Coughlan said of her character in the franchise.

Notably, this came after the Derry Girls alum became the protagonist in Bridgerton season 3, with her co-star Luke Newton, who played her love interest, Colin Bridgerton.

Both stars fell in love with each other during the season and they were shown as a married couple with a baby boy.
