Lorde makes confession about ‘thinness' craze

Lorde just discussed her past eating disorder.

The New Zealand singer-songwriter talked to Rolling Stone about her “obsession with thinness” talking about how disordered eating impacted her personal life as well as career.

In 2021, around the release of her popular album, Solar Power, the Ribs hitmaker remembers feeling “so hungry and so weak.”

Lorde revealed that she counted the calories she consumed and administered her protein intake, a habit she developed during the Covid-19 pandemic.

And even though she embarked on her Solar Power tour, she felt her stage fright disappear however her eating disorder was still there.

Talking about the immense duality of her routine while touring, the Girl, So Confusing collaborator described remembered “also looking at the pictures afterwards and feeling deep loathing at the sight of my beautiful, tiny tummy, thinking it was so unforgivable what I had allowed it to become.”

In 2023, she approached Charli XCX about making music together, and at that time she had relocated to London after her eight-year-long relationship with a Universal Music executive ended.

However, the Royals hitmaker kept cancelling plans which led Charli to detail her perplexed thoughts in the single, Girl, So Confusing, on which Lorde did eventually feature, in the remix version, for public discourse about the “war with her body.”

Lorde, however, revealed that the Brat album maker was not aware that she “was slamming into rock bottom on multiple levels.”
