Billie Eilish has called out fans who criticized her so-called 2025 Met Gala outfit, clarifying that the viral look circulating online was created using artificial intelligence, and that she wasn’t even at the event.
The Grammy-winning singer addressed the confusion in a candid Instagram Story on Wednesday, expressing frustration after fans labeled the AI-generated outfit “trash.”
In the viral image, Eilish is seen wearing a black corset top and a high-low skirt with feathered detailing, a look that fooled many into believing she had attended the annual fashion event in New York City.
In regards to this, Eilish exclaimed, “Seeing people talk about what I wore to this year's Met Gala being trash… I wasn't there!” while eating an ice cream cone in her video. “That's AI. I had a show in Europe that night. Let me be. I wasn't even there!”
According to Daily Mail, the singer was performing at Amsterdam's Ziggo Dome as part of her Hit Me Hard and Soft tour on the same night as the Met Gala.
Moreover, Eilish, who previously attended the Met Gala in 2021, 2022, and 2023, also missed last year’s event while preparing to release her third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, which officially dropped on May 17, 2024.
Additionally, her last Met Gala appearance was in 2023, where she wore a gothic black gown with sheer tights and opera gloves, in line with the Karl Lagerfeld theme.
As per the outlet's claims, the singer recently opened up about her relationship with beauty and fashion in an interview with British Vogue.
When asked if she ever regretted any of her bold style choices, Eilish replied, “Oh my God, yes! But I do have to give myself credit for always going so hard.”
During the same interview, Eilish became emotional when rapper Nicki Minaj asked if she ever felt uncomfortable with her beauty.
In this regard, she said, “I’ve never really felt very beautiful or seen myself in that way. I've had to really convince myself that I am beautiful. Being a woman is hard.”
Currently on the European leg of her world tour, Eilish is set to perform next in Cologne, Germany on May 29, with shows lined up in Poland, Austria, Italy, France, Scotland, and the UK.
It is worth mentioning that the tour will conclude in Dublin on July 27.
