Sadie Sink can relate to her John Proctor is the Villain character Shelby.

In the acclaimed play, Shelby is a defiant teenager who uses an English class discussion to expose a secret that is also the cause of deep personal pain to her.

For her performance, the Stranger Things star has received a leading actress 2025 Tony Award nomination.

"Shelby has a real emotional maturity that I don't even know if she's aware of yet," she told People at the 'Meet the Nominees' press junket on Thursday, May 8.

"That was always something I kind of related to; of growing up a little bit faster," she explained. "It's just something that I've felt really connected to."

Sadie began her career at the age of 10 with roles in Annie and later 2015's The Audience. She began playing Max Mayfield in Netflix's hit show Stranger Things at the age of 15. The role got her global stardom and the pressures that come with it.

Sadie Sink went on to reveal other things that she likes about Shelby, saying, "I like Shelby's commitment to bits. She's very well versed in pop culture, and when she wants to go along with a bit, she'll really go for it. So I like that."
