Billy Joel has been forgetting lyrics for almost ten years after he cancelled all his concerts because of a brain disorder.

On Friday, May 23, the 76-year-old American singer-songwriter and pianist took to his Instagram and revealed that he has been diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), which affected his “hearing, vision, and balance.”

According to Daily Mail, Joel’s spokesperson shared that recent performances have 'exacerbated' his condition and he has taken a break and his condition will be treated with “physical therapy.”

The spokesperson shared, “This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances. Under his doctor’s instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period.”

For the unversed, excess fluid accumulation in the ventricles or spaces in the brain and spinal cord causes normal pressure hydrocephalus. The fluid does not only put pressure on these body parts; it also triggers symptoms such as an inability to control the bladder and problems with cognitive function, walking, and memory.

Notably, this occurs as the extra fluid stretches and compresses the tissues in the brain, which affects the communication of nerve cells and the movement of muscles.
