Dakota Johnson recently got candid and opened up about why she always dreamt of becoming a film producer.
While conversing with Deadline at the Cannes Film Festival, the 35-year-old American actress, who produced and acted in her new movie Splitsville as Jolie, talked about working as both a film producer and an actress.
Articulating her thoughts, Johnson said, “Being a producer allows for a bit more collaboration and more like you get your day in court.”
Expanding on this, she added, “What I have experienced is that I get my day in court more than I have as maybe just an actor on some projects.”
The Fifty Shades of Grey star went on to reflect on her decision to step into the world of filmmaking by quipping, “It’s more about me; like, I get more from it because I always wanted more from this job. I am so in love with it and I have a torturous relationship with it.”
“I’m just thirsty for more all the time and I just wanted to be more involved and learn more and be more creative and more a part of the whole process of making a film as opposed to just showing up and saying my lines,” Dakota Johnson explained.
Before concluding, Splitsville chronicles the tale of Asley, played by Adria Arjona, who demands divorce from her “good-natured” husband Carey but asks for support from his friend Paul (Michael Angelo Covino) and Julie.
It is pertinent to mention that Splitsville premiered at the Cannes Premiere section of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival on May 19, 2025, before its global theatrical release on August 22, 2025, under the banner of Neon.
