The Handmaid's Tale’s creator, Bruce Miller, has opened up about the 'heart-dropped' ending of the series.

While chatting with Entertainment Weekly, the filmmaker candidly talked about his experience of concluding the series.

The series revolves around a dystopian society, Republic of Gilead, where fertile women are forcibly assigned to bear children for upper class families.

Elisabeth Moss starred as June alongside Alexis Bledel, who played the role of Emily, Yvonne Strahovski, Madeline Brewer, and Max Minghella.

Referring to Bledel’s on-screen role, Miller said, “She's really smart and she's teaching June things and making her think about all sorts of stuff. And [it's like], "Look at us walking exactly the same rhythm. Look at us."

In the last episode, June reunited with her long-time handmaid pal Emily, whom she hasn’t met since season 4.

Recalling their reunion scene, the American film-maker told the outlet, “she was such a part of June's beginning in Gilead that it seemed like when June was in this particular episode, revisiting her actual experience on the ground in that neighborhood for the very first time...”

Sharing the story of the first season, he continued, “Because before this, June was there before Gilead, that was where she lived. Then she was there as a slave, and then she was a little bit there as a rebel.”

“Now she's here, she can walk around. She's a free woman, she can put her hands in her pocket, she can wear whatever color she wants,” Bruce Miller concluded.

After six seasons and eight years, the series concluded on May 27, 2025.
