King Charles breaks cover after reports Prince Harry wants to change name

King Charles has been spotted for the first time in public after reports Prince Harry wants to change his surname to Spencer.

According to a report by the Daily Mail, Prince Harry discussed the issue with Princess Diana’s brother Charles Spencer – whose family seat is Althorp in Northamptonshire – during a rare visit to Britain, but was told that the legal hurdles were ‘insurmountable.’

The outlet quoted Prince Harry’s friend as saying, “They had a very amicable conversation and Spencer advised him against taking such a step.”

The publication also cited the sources as claiming that Prince Harry's move would only further deepen the rift between him and the Royal Family, as it would be "particularly hurtful" to King Charles, who "cherishes" his family name.

Amid these reports, King Charles made a solo appearance and was spotted smiling and waving at his fans on Sunday morning, as the monarch made his way to St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham for a service.

Prince William and Harry’s father was all smiles as he greeted people warmly from the backseat of a blue car.

Queen Camilla reportedly did not join him for Sunday service.
