Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s spokesperson has reacted to the claims the duke wanted to change his surname to Spencer.
Royal expert Richard Eden confirmed the spokesperson remarks on Twitter.
The royal expert said, “This may amuse you: Harry and Meghan's spokesman has been briefing that my story about H discussing becoming a Spencer with Earl Spencer was 'wholly inaccurate'.”
Eden continued, “But the same spokesman also confirmed that the duke 'did have a meeting with Earl Spencer to discuss the family name.'"
The Daily Mail reported last week, Prince Harry discussed the issue with Princess Diana’s brother Charles Spencer – whose family seat is Althorp in Northamptonshire – during a rare visit to Britain, but was told that the legal hurdles were ‘insurmountable.’
The outlet quoted Prince Harry’s friend as saying, “They had a very amicable conversation and Spencer advised him against taking such a step.”
The publication also cited the sources as claiming that Prince Harry's move would only further deepen the rift between him and the Royal Family, as it would be "particularly hurtful" to King Charles, who "cherishes" his family name.
Meanwhile, there are also claims Prince William has shut the door on his estranged brother Harry and the Prince of Wales has absolutely no interest in mending fences.
Royal expert Hilary Fordwich also claimed that King Charles is not willing to go against Prince William’s wishes.
