The dad-of-three attended the Blue Economy and Finance Forum, joining the likes of French President Emmanuel Macron, Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves Robles, and Prince Albert of Monaco, whose Gimaldi Forum venue was hosting the event.
William, who is a longtime passionate conservationist, made a speech to highlight how only 3% of the oceans are protected as opposed to the goal to conserve 30% of the oceans by 2030. He emphasis that protecting the oceans and marine life is a global imperative.
At the event, which marked a major moment ahead of the 2025 UN Ocean Conference, William’s Earthshot Prize’s past winners also joined him to highlight what progress they’ve made since winning.
Earthshot Prize is now a decade old annual competition that the Prince of Wales holds where different environmentalists compete for a million euro prize to continue their efforts to save the environment. The award is centered around innovative solutions to improve the environment and five competitors win each year. It is set to continue till 2030. The next award is set to be held in Rio de Janeiro.
Among the past winners who joined the Prince at Monaco was Coral Vita, who won the prize in 2021. The organization restores coral reefs by growing them on land first and then transferring them to the ocean. Coral Vita has grown 100,000 corals across 52 species.
This comes after Kensington Palace released a short film of Prince William’s discussion with legendary environmentalist David Attenborough.
