King Charles representative details Duchess Sophies latest visit

Duchess Sophie visited West Northamptonshire on Monday to mark the 350th anniversary of the Great Fire of Northampton, which had destroyed a large portion of the town center.

James Saunders Watson, Lord-Lieutenant Northamptonshire, The King's Representative in the County, said on Twitter, "It was a great honour to welcome HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh to Northampton yesterday for 350th Anniversary of The Great Fire of Northampton and a visit to newly regenerated Market Square."

He said, "The royal visit included a tour of the nursery’s learning spaces, time spent engaging with children, volunteers and staff from both the nursery and wider charity."

He added, "HRH unveiled a plaque in commemoration of her visit and was presented with a paper posy (made by the children)."

She also met with members of the "Great Fire History Group and tried a new educational Great Fire app with timeline of the fire and saw costumes designed to reflect the Fire which will appear in this year's Northampton Carnival."

Lord-Lieutenant Northamptonshire said, "The Duchess was then guided through key areas of the town centre linked to the fire’s history, including All Saints Church, rebuilt with support from King Charles II after the fire destroyed much of the original medieval church"
