Justin Baldoni’s legal team has fired back after his $400 million countersuit against Blake Lively was dismissed, with his attorney calling her court victory “false” in a new statement.
PEOPLE magazine has obtained a statement on Tuesday, June 10, in which the 41-year-old American director and actor’s lawyer Bryan Freedman quipped that the 37-year-old American actress and her team’s "predictable declaration of victory is false."
For the unversed, judge Lewis J. Liman threw out Baldoni’s lawsuit on June 9, in which he had sued Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and their publicist for “extortion and defamation.”
The judge also dismissed his $250 million lawsuit against The New York Times for libel.
Liman went on to state that the legal team of the It Ends with Us actor and director still has the right to amend the claims: the “breach of implied covenant” and the “tortious interference with contract” claims but it has to be done by June 23.
Reacting to the court’s verdict, Freedman said, “While the Court dismissed the defamation related claims, the Court has invited us to amend four out of the seven claims against Ms. Lively, which will showcase additional evidence and refined allegations.”
"This case is about false accusations of s***** harassment and retaliation and a nonexistent smear campaign, which Ms. Lively’s own team conveniently describes as 'untraceable' because they cannot prove what never happened.”
"Most importantly, Ms. Lively’s own claims are no truer today than they were yesterday, and with the facts on our side, we march forward with the same confidence that we had when Ms. Lively and her cohorts initiated this battle and look forward to her forthcoming deposition, which I will be taking," Baldoni’s lawyer added.
“We are grateful for the organic show of support from the public and for the dedication of the internet sleuth community, who continue to cover the case with discernment and integrity,” Freedman noted.
It is pertinent to mention that Baldoni’s recent defeat is the latest update in the It Ends with Us legal fight that started in December 2024 when the Gossip Girl actress sued him for “misconduct on set” and a “retaliatory smear campaign,” but he has already denied them.
