Buckingham Palace released King Charles’ latest statement on the horrific shooting incident in Austria which claimed lives of 11 people.

The monarch expressed profound sadness and solidarity with the people of Austria following a tragic school shooting in Graz.

The shooting, which took place on Tuesday at Dreierschützengasse secondary school, is being described as the deadliest school attack in Austria’s recent history.

According to Austrian authorities, the attacker was a 21-year-old former student of the school, who entered the premises armed and opened fire on students and staff before taking his own life in a school bathroom.

In his statement, Charles penned, "My wife and I were deeply shocked and saddened to learn about the appallingly tragic events at the Dreierschútzengasse school in Graz.

"Schools should be places of sanctuary and learning, which makes this horrific attack on students and staff all the more dreadful,” he added.

"Our most heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the families of all those affected by this terrible loss of life and injury.

"We send our deepest sympathy to all Austrians at this profoundly distressing time."

Among the victims were nine students aged between 14 and 17, and one teacher. As per reports, most died at the scene, while two female students later passed away in hospital due to critical injuries.
