Zuzana Kirchnerová’s a Czech filmmaker, premiered her debut film Caravan and this was not just her personal milestone. It was the first time in 30 years that a Czech-majority production was included at the Cannens official selection.
Dagmar Sedláčková, Caravan's producer even issued a statement to mark the occasion.
She said said, “I feel there’s real movement in the right direction. That kind of consistency speaks to a maturation of the industry — better developed scripts, more precise direction and a willingness to push boundaries.”
According to Variety the Czech government is said to have played a role in this success, which culture minister Martin Baxa explained as “a crucial step towards strengthening the development of the Czech audiovisual industry.”
In addition, the government funding schemes provided support for the series production, animations and dramatic changes.
About this Baxa further added, “We have succeeded in establishing a growth-oriented system — the more successful Czech audiovisual production becomes, the more support it will receive, and the more funding will be available for film incentives.”
